Art in the City
Meet Surrey's Local Artists at the Studio Tour
Some of our earliest experiences in life revolve around art. Do you remember making a turkey out of your hand print in kindergarten, dousing it in glitter, and gifting it to your parents for Thanksgiving? The beaming look on mom and pop’s face as they displayed it on the fridge for all to see? We start out in life constantly dreaming, painting, and imagining, and then suddenly other things takes over and sometimes we forget to express ourselves artistically.
This is the case for many of us, but for some, the creation of art never ends. We know this because right here in Surrey, there are so many inspiring artists who have dedicated their lives to art, and they’ve come together to share their talents with Surrey residents and visitors alike.
The Art in the City: Studio Tour is in its third year of gathering artists and art enthusiasts together on October 1st and 2nd in collaboration with Culture Days. The two day event goes a little something like this: grab your friends, family, and fellow art lovers and tour the 19 locations housing 33 artists and their work. Not only can you see beautiful pieces of pottery, prints, paintings, glass-blown objects, graphite and more, you can participate in workshops and engage in demonstrations. In addition, you get to meet the artists behind the works you see in front of your very eyes. Locations vary from artists’ galleries and workshops to cultural centres, and of course, admission is free for all these locations.
And who doesn’t love a little contest thrown into the mix? We’re giving away tickets to the Surrey Civic Theatre and The Royal Canadian Theatre Company! It’s very easy to enter. Just pick up your Art in the City: Studio Tour Brochure at any of the 19 locations and flip to page one for the full run-down on how to enter. We’ll give you a hint, all you need to do is visit three locations on the tour and have the artists initial their names on the brochure, fill out your name, and drop off your brochure at the Newton Cultural Centre. Easy-peasy!
