The Little Mountain that Could
All About Grouse
Grouse Mountain is more than just “that four thousand-foot peak that everyone takes those jaw-dropping photos of Vancouver from”. It’s MUCH more. Let’s take a hike out of Surrey and see what’s… up.
From this one-of-a-kind gondola, you’ll experience some of the most breathtaking views available of the Pacific, the Gulf Island and of course, the metropolis of Vancouver sprawling below. North America’s largest aerial tramway is not one to miss! Unless you’re afraid of heights, of course…
We’ve got neighbours… The Bear Discovery Tour is in-paw-sibly fun. Catch the Skyride Gondola up the mountain, hang out with a ranger and watch Grizzlies Grinder and Coola get their morning feeding before heading to the Grizzly Lookout Café for yours. SO MUCH safer than it sounds!
Mountain Ziplines includes a dual-line, five-line circuit that’s a guaranteed adrenaline rush as you hurtle through canyons and forests on a two-hour tour that leaves you feeling less like a tourist and more like a flying squirrel.
One Big Windmill
The coolest thing about the towering Eye of the Wind turbine isn’t the electrical energy it generates – it’s the clear glass viewPOD at the top that offers 360-degree views just meters from the strucutre’s massive rotating blades…
He’s a Lumberjack and He’s Okay
The famous Grouse Mountain Lumberjack Show features champion woodsmen doing champion woodsman things: log rolling, a 60-foot tree climb, two-man peg and raker saws, axe throwing and the ever-thrilling springboard chop – the only 3-board event in North America. If you don’t feel Canadian here, you won’t feel Canadian anywhere.
From local tours to the extravagant Fly, Dine & Drive package, Blackcomb Aviation will leave you breathless with its tours. This is how to do British Columbia’s backyard in style. And just when you thought the view couldn’t get any better…
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be an autumn leaf on a VERY tall tree… Tandem Paragliding launches from the Grouse Mountain Peak and floats you 3,300 feet down into Cleveland Park – a ride you’re not soon to forget.
Culinary choices abound on Grouse. Experience fine dining with even finer views at The Observatory and Altitudes Bistro, go casual at Lupins or Rusty Rail BBQ & Grill, grab a java at the Grouse Grind Coffee Bar or Starbucks (we know, they’re EVERYWHERE) or treat yourself to a sweet Canadian pastry classic – the Beavertail!
Hiking doesn’t get much better than this – just ask the hundreds of locals who pound the Grouse Grind weekly. This legendary trail is a 2.9 kilometer ascent up the face of the mountain. It’s challenging, though so don’t get cocky. There’s a reason why they call it ‘Mother Nature’s Stairmaster’.
Did we mention skiing?
And snowboarding; and snowshoeing; and tobogganing. Grouse in the winter is a snowy wonderland of Alpine sports and activities. And with its excellent chairlifts and extensive floodlight system, the fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down. NIGHT SKIING!!!
